On Wednesday 15th December the Fenland SOIL team were delighted to host Rebecca Pow Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Tony Juniper Natural England Chairman, to celebrate the launch of the Natural England Discovery Grant Projects.
The Minister joined some of the Fenland SOIL team in a field near Prickwillow, Ely to discuss the issues and pressures of farming in the Fens, while maintaining our drainage infrastructure and potential options to mitigate the challenges.
The Fenland SOIL group has been awarded one of the projects and we discussed our Discovery Grant Project with the Minister, which looks to design Land Management Opportunities Maps for 3 Internal Drainage Boards within the Fens. These Land Management Opportunities Maps will be co-created with farmers and other key stakeholders and made available for farmers to use as a guide for land management going forward.
