It’s happened again, folks – we’ve copped another mention in the media!
After stumbling across excerpts about our conference in Tom Heap’s new book, ‘Land Smart’, we were equally delighted to see Fenland SOIL featured in a recent Ben Spencer article in The Times.
Ben came out to visit the Fenland SOIL team and some of our member farms earlier this year. His article focuses on sustainable farming in the Fens, discussing why Fenland food production is so important.

It also explains the complexities and nuances of tackling the Fenland triple challenge of food security, net zero and biodiversity net gain. In her interview our General Manager, Megan Hudson, says the solution to this challenge lies in creating a land-use “mosaic” that results in “the ‘least-worst option’ that is also fair to farmers.”
Ben writes about the fascinating work being done by Martin Hammond at G S Shropshire and Sons, describing Martin’s efforts to control water levels at his unique far. He also discusses Martin’s experience with Fenland SOIL as the farmer partner on our Paludiculture trial.

Additionally, Fenland SOIL’s Vice-Chair, Luke Palmer, speaks about his experiment to grow wheat over a raised water table.
