The Centre for Landscape Regeneration (CLR) has released a new report based on a major survey of over 70 farms and landholdings across the East Anglian Fens.
In 2024, the CLR spoke to farmers and land managers about the 2021-22 farming season, gathering detailed, practical data on land management practices, costs and revenues, and farm employment.
This independent research aims to deepen the understanding of how Fens farmers operate and to inform critical discussions about the future of farming systems in the region, food security, and the transition toward a more resilient and sustainable Fens landscape.
The summary report presents key findings on crop yields and usage, farm diversification, and uptake of Agri-Environment schemes. The full survey data is now informing CLR research into the region’s vital cultural, social, and ecological value, alongside its essential contribution to food production and the wider economy.
“The value of this work lies entirely in the insights generously shared by those who manage the land. We are deeply grateful for their time, experience, and knowledge.”
